Ronald Regan

[Truth or Fiction] Ronald Reagan was moral, honest, respectful, and dignified. The Reagan's treated Secret Service and everyone else with respect and honor. Nancy Reagan was very nice but very protective of the President- Truth!

Ronald Reagan's codename was Rawhide and according to Kessler's book he treated the Secret Service agents, the Air Force One Crew and the staff of maids and butlers at the White House with respect.  President Reagan was known to carry a fire arm and told a former agent that it was "just in case you guys can't do your job, I can help out."   A former agent told Kessler that when Reagan traveled on his first presidential trip to the Soviet Union he had packed a gun in his briefcase.   A former staff member told Kessler that "Reagan was famous for firing up Air Force jets on behalf of children who needed transport for kidney operations."

When Ronald Regan was given the information on the “ozone hole” he didn't hesitate and moved forward with getting US and international action on the problem.

Kessler wrote that Nancy Reagan was very protective of her husband, oversaw his diet and all visits from the children of the President had to be cleared by her first.

During his service, the economy improved and the Cold War ended. He is particularly remembered for his economic reforms and recovery acts as well as his anti-communist stance on foreign policy. He stimulate the economy, created more jobs, and strengthened the nation's defenses.

He initiated economic reforms, called "Reaganomics," which spurred economic growth by cutting taxes and government spending and regulating business. These reforms were also designed to provide jobs and lower inflation.

He was a strong military Commander in Chief and used the military to fight international terrorism.

During his second term in office, he revised the income tax code, which lowered the number of deductions, resulting in millions of people with low incomes being exempt from paying taxes.

Iran-Contra affair

Reagan's term in office had its problems, one big one was dubbed the "Iran-Contra Affair" where arms were being given/sold to Iran in exchange a prisoner release and some money was funneled off for funding the Contras in Nicaragua.

There are a dozen WEB sites out there with their own slant on what happened but basically, here is what happened. I don't want to make it sound right, but I don't think their is a presidency without scandal.

Reagan-era government scandal, which stemmed from the U.S. government's policies toward two seemingly unrelated countries, Nicaragua and Iran. Despite stated and repeated denials to Congress and to the public, Reagan Administration officials supported the militant contra rebels in Nicaragua and sold arms to a hostile Iranian government. These events have led to questions about the appropriateness of covert operations, congressional oversight, and even the presidential power to pardon.
